Interior fit-out specialist Phoenix Interiors has continued its expansion programme by launching an M&E service and maintenance business.
The new division will be headed up by Martin Brown, who has over 20 years experience with major contractors including Balfour Beatty and Willmott Dixon and more recently as a director of Commtech.
The launch of Aftercare comes hot on the heels of the formation of a joint venture with building services commissioning specialist Valco Services in Manchester and the acquisition last year of Aircomm Air Conditioning.
The £12m turnover Phoenix group now offers building services and fabric maintenance to complement its original core business of interior fit-outs, ceilings, partitioning and dry lining.
“The market remains tough, but there is no point standing still,” says Phoenix director Andy Britnell. “We are grabbing the business by the throat and driving forward so we are ready for the inevitable upturn. And we are recruiting hard to support our growth.”
The management team recognised that, to be successful, any construction-related business needed to be broadly based and so they have embarked on a strategy of diversifying around the core fit-out expertise.
“We see huge potential in offering complementary services to existing customers, while also expanding into new sectors,” says Martin Brown. “Phoenix offers added value through being able to service plant in a ceiling void or replace lighting whilst also being able to offer ceiling overhaul, cleaning and repairs. This gives our clients a good-as-new feel to their building spaces.
“The directors recognised that, within the group, there was already a breadth of valuable experience and skills that would allow us to tackle the services as well as the fabric of buildings. My challenge is to get the most out of that potential and recruit additional expertise as the business expands.”
Phoenix has recently secured a number of prestigious fit-out projects, including the Central St Giles development and the headquarters buildings of O2 and KPMG.
